Taken from the press conference in Pinzolo, the 16th July …

THE TARGET

“We won't make any announcements. I think that the aim to win the scudetto can't be the only thought on our minds and anyhow it's too early to talk about it now. We have to focus our efforts on becoming the Juve in all aspects as it was before , in order to get to the end of the season being proud of our action. That's all”.

SOLID BASIS

“I've never asked any coach to play every single match. I've never imposed anything and in any case I think it would be wrong to do so. Surely I think that a real problem would be the opposite, if the football player refuses to play, then something is going wrong! Here we are talking about different thing: I have always asked to be treated as anybody else, doesn't matter whether you are eighteen or thirty six you have to have the same rights, no matter what, and then only the best will be on the pitch. In all these 18 years of being in Juventus, I have always had very clear behavior, that I think was also appreciated by all and I'm sure that I've always given my complete availability , on the pitch, on the bench, in the changing room and out of it, I've never lacked the will to give my best and to play. I think today I can sum up in three points what is really important for me : love and passion for this sport, that are the fundamental basis for the future, and the hope to be fit as I am today. I'm quite ambitious and that's why I'm proud of being the captain of the Juventus. And I surely wish to be the captain of the Juve that comes back to win, to enhance my carrier with further success”.

THE FUTURE

“My future is crystal clear, limpid and simple: focused just on the coming season. I've got no problems or anxiety about my contract expiring next June. And I can swear that there's been no negotiating going with no society. I've read that I was supposed to play for the USA or Arabia or China. But it's not true. If anything, then, probably, this year I'll be more than ever maniacally concerned about the details, to turn the just started season into the great one as it is really important for me and for the Juventus. As for your question whether I can be the next future Platini, i.e. the world ambassador for the better football in the world, I'm flattered and I'm really honored to have been asked this question. But my future in the football world is still to be written. I surely don't think of myself to be immortal (or almost...), but I still think of myself only as a football player. Jokes apart, this question can be answered only in the future when the right time and opportunities come.

OTHER PASSIONS…

“Basket or golf? Over the last two years I've closely followed NBI finals and I can say they are really exciting. Now, even if at a distance, I'm following Golf British Open... Golf and basket are two kinds of sport that I like enormously and I'm the huge fan and admirer of the athletes of these sports and I also take some cues from them for my life. And then, today in the morning I've won against Brazzo in basket. I must say, he improved a lot, but he's got no chance to win against me...Unfortunately, recently, I haven't played golf a lot and so I couldn't compete with any of my team mates…”.
